MEET DR. ZHANG

Meet Dr Zhang
Dr. Amy Zhang, MD understands the philosophies of various rheumatology treatment modalities. Her medical training was conducted at some of the most highly respected institutions in the world, making her one of the most qualified practitioners in this field. As a rheumatologist, she blends her expertise of state-of-the-art Western medicine approaches with her knowledge of Eastern medicine philosophies to maximize each patient’s wellness. She takes a multidimensional approach by assessing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual origins of pain and illness. This allows her to tailor a personalized treatment plan that is best suited for each patient’s needs.
Having extensive years of experience in diagnosing and treating patients with systemic autoimmune diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, and osteoporosis, she is dedicated to providing her patients with the best possible care and helping them get back to their normal lives. She is intensely interested in developing an individualized treatment plan for each patient. She believes that open communication between the doctor and patient is essential to achieving the best possible outcome. Her clinical interests include studying the impact of environmental factors on autoimmune diseases and psychosomatic medicine (the study of how emotions, thoughts, and behaviors can influence the development, course, and treatment of medical conditions).
Dr. Zhang was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Maryland by immigrant parents who taught her the value of hard work, compassion, and hospitality. She chose to enter a career in medicine to help people discover the root cause of their ailments and that they are not alone in their suffering. She earned her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center, caring for many of the nation’s sickest patients. During her residency, she completed a Tropical Disease rotation in Zambia to learn how to provide medical care for patients in resource-limited settings. She completed her Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego where she was Chief Fellow in her senior year. During both her residency and fellowship, she worked closely with the veteran population at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical System. Her patients describe her as a good listener, thorough, and one that leaves no stone unturned. In her spare time, she enjoys live music, dancing, art, exploring the outdoors, traveling, and serving in her church.
